Parliament: Registry Office will be removed from the São Vicente Court to make way for small claims courts - minister

Mindelo, Apr 25 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Justice said today that she is waiting for the completion of the works at the former São Vicente Registry Office to free up space in the Court and make room for small claims, civil and criminal courts.

Joana Rosa gave this guarantee in parliament when questioned by the leader of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID) about where the small claims courts will be created.

According to the minister, the Ministry of Justice has always encountered challenges in terms of spaces in São Vicente for the installation of the court and also in relation to the delay in the execution of the works.

“We have had problems with space. As you know, we have the so-called ‘Santa Engrácia project’ in the former Registry Office and it never ends because a company is always contracted, and halfway through the contract the company runs into difficulties and has to renegotiate,” explained the minister, stating that she has already spoken directly with the Ministry of Infrastructure and with the Infrastructures of Cabo Verde (ICV) who have to finish the works.
