North Santiago: PAICV says Government “failed to make electoral commitments” to region

Praia, Nov 4 (Inforpress) – The chairman of the Political Commission of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition party) of the North Santiago Region considered that the Government “failed to fulfill its commitments” in 2016 to North Santiago.

António Fernandes made this statement to Inforpress following a Commission meeting held this Sunday in Santa Cruz, where the political situation in the region was analyzed and the municipal agenda for 2020 was discussed.

Among the commitments presented by the Government, Fernandes highlighted the issue of fishing ports in Tarrafal, Santa Cruz and Rincão (Santa Catarina), investments in youth and mobilization of water for agriculture, among others.

As an impact of the “non-fulfillment of commitments”, this leader of the main opposition party pointed to the “rise in unemployment rate” in North Santiago, and underlined the fact that the municipality of Santa Cruz, the only PAICV-led City Hall in  North Santiago, have recorded “the highest rate in the region”.

Regarding the bad agricultural year, António Fernandes said that the Government “ have not been able to properly implement” emergency programs, which has “stifled and destroyed” the entire family base of people living on agriculture and livestock in the region.
