Mpox: Airport and beach port reinforced with sanitary surveillance against infectious diseases

Praia, 27 Aug (Inforpress) – The Praia Health Delegation and health surveillance teams are “on maximum alert and fully prepared” to identify and contain potential cases of infectious diseases at the country’s ports and airports.

The assurance was given to Inforpress by the Health Delegate of Praia, Odair Carvalho, who highlighted the strategic importance of Nelson Mandela International Airport in Praia, describing it as the most vulnerable point due to its flight connections with the West African region, where cases of mpox virus, formerly known as monkeypox, have been reported.

According to Odair Carvalho, the strengthening and coordination of health security guidelines follow a strict national protocol already in place at all international airports across the archipelago.

“If there is any passenger who manifests suspicious symptoms during the trip, the pilots and crew are instructed to immediately report the situation to the authorities on the ground,” the doctor stated.
