Mindelo, Nov 28 (Inforpress) – The city of Mindelo will be the “heart of celebration” when the morna is proclaimed Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, assured the Minister of Culture Abraão Vicente, who chaired the opening of the Craft and Design Fair (URDI).
Abraão Vicente began by ensuring that on December 12th the morna will be proclaimed Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, because “this is not a process that the Ministry of Culture has done based on beliefs, opinions or impressions”, but rather a “technical” project and impeccably delivered.”
“We have a very competent team made up by Cabo Verdean technicians, who have delivered an impeccable candidacy at UNESCO,” he praised, before adding that Mindelo should be the “heart of the celebration” on the day of proclamation, just as it is at the “heart of the dynamics and Government’s cultural policies”.
The minister made these remarks at the opening of the URDI fair on Wednesday night, in Mindelo, an event that as he said it was no accident that it had music as its theme, in the case “Music and visual poetics”, portrayed in the exhibition of products from about 200 artisans and other parallel activities.
“Because, it is through music that our handicrafts will be projected in the world, it is through music that all folkloric expressions, from banderona to tabanca, san jon, batuque, all Cabo Verdean festivals will be projected into the world through morna” he said.
