Maritime Transport: Government indicates January 2027 as the date for implementing the single fare of 500 escudos.

Mindelo, July 21 (Inforpress) - The Government intends to implement a single fare of 500 escudos for maritime transport starting January 1, 2027, following studies and dialogue with the sector, the Minister of the Sea announced today in Mindelo.

João do Carmo Brito made the announcement at the end of a working visit to Enapor – Ports of Cabo Verde, in São Vicente, during which he explained that fulfilling this election pledge requires technical studies, dialogue with shipowners and coordination between all the bodies involved.

The same source also assured that this can only be done after the Government of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), which recently assumed power, has its own budget, which will only happen from January 1, 2027.

According to the minister, Enapor will play “a key role” in this process, not only as a port operator but also as a partner in finding solutions to reduce the operating costs borne by shipowners.
