Maio: Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Civil Protection distributes fruit plants to farmers

Porto Inglês, Oct 3 (Inforpress) – The Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Civil Protection began today the distribution of fruit plants to farmers in the southern zone, as a way to combat desertification and climate change, inserting more species in Maio.

According to the Civil Protection representative, Valdir Rodrigues, they intend to introduce about 500 fruit trees on the island, which, in his opinion, will, in addition to diversifying the species of fruit plants, contribute to families having an additional source of income.

He said that the choice of plants such as guava, coconut, mango, gooseberry and cashews was made by the Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA), claiming that these plants adapt better to the climate of the island.

“This is a pilot project and we want to cover the whole island and we will follow up for two to three years to see its impact on the island,” he said, stating that if successful, it could be reinforced in the coming years.
