Legislative Elections 2026: MpD says transition period is proceeding normally

Praia, 3 June (Inforpress) – The vice-president of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), Luís Filipe Tavares, stated today that the transitional period following the general election on 17 May is proceeding normally, in accordance with the Constitution.

The politician was speaking to the press after the audience granted by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, to the parties with parliamentary seats, before the appointment, today, of the new prime minister, elected in the legislative elections of May 17th.

According to Luís Filipe Tavares, the current head of government is conducting the transition process in a "responsible and calm" manner.

"Everything is proceeding perfectly normally. The acting prime minister is a very calm, composed, and responsible person, and he is preparing the transition in a completely normal manner, in accordance with our democratic tradition," he stated.
