Justice: CSMJ President highlights cooperation and innovation as ways to reduce lengthy proceedings

Praia, 13 July (Inforpress) – The President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ), Bernardino Delgado, stated today that cooperation between the judicial systems of Portuguese-speaking countries and a commitment to innovation are essential tools for tackling delays in legal proceedings.

 The magistrate made these remarks on the sidelines of the opening of the In-Person Workshop on Judicial Innovation, held as part of the second phase of the ESPIRAL Project, an initiative designed to prepare for the Third Summit of the Superior Councils of Justice of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), scheduled for April 2027 in Brazil.

According to Bernardino Delgado, the project is currently in the phase of developing innovative solutions, following the completion of an assessment of the judicial systems in the participating countries, which identified their respective strengths and challenges.

‘Several strengths have been identified within the Cape Verdean judicial system, starting with the independence of the judiciary, which is an asset to our system, but also the high level of computerisation, particularly with the implementation of the electronic criminal proceedings system,’ he said.
