Journalist says artificial intelligence should be used with “caution and criticism” (w/audio)

Praia, May 2 (Inforpress) – Portuguese journalist Miguel Crespo said today, in Praia, that despite the advantages of artificial intelligence, communication professionals must maintain “a critical eye” and “validate sources” to “avoid the spread of misinformation”.

Trainer at the Protocol Center for Journalist Training (Cenjor), Crespo was at the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) today to give a conference on the impact of social networks and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on journalism.

The event is part of the celebrations of World Press Freedom Day, celebrated on May 3, and which marks the opening of the international colloquium “Human Rights in Communication”.

Speaking to the press, the journalist highlighted that social media has been a “valuable tool” for journalism in Cabo Verde, allowing information to reach a wider audience and offering new channels of interaction, and that Cape Verdean journalists are using social media “quite well”, within the standards.
