Praia, Nov 11 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, will be received by Pope Francis on Saturday, 16th, at the Vatican, in what will be the second meeting between the two Heads of States, the first in 2013.
“I will have the privilege of meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis (…), Head of State of Vatican and Head of the Catholic Church, on the 16th this month, at 10 am, at the Vatican,” Jorge Carlos Fonseca announced in his Facebook social network page.
At the meeting, the Cabo Verdean President stated that he will have the possibility to exchange views with Pope Francis on some matters that concern relations between Cabo Verde and the Holy See, “but, above all, to convey to him the deep aspirations of the vast majority of Cabo Verdeans who are part of the Catholic community of Cabo Verde, if not the national community. ”
On the same day, and shortly after the meeting with the Supreme Pontiff, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, he will meet Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State. Cabo Verde and the Holy See signed in June 2013 the Concordat, an international legal instrument whereby the Cabo Verdean State recognizes the juridical personality of the Catholic Church, as well as some advantages and benefits, all compatible with the provisions of the country’s Constitution.
