INE rejects allegations of manipulation and reaffirms the technical independence of official statistics

Praia, 4 August (Inforpress) – The National Institute of Statistics (INE) on Monday rejected allegations of data manipulation and reaffirmed that official statistics are produced in accordance with international standards, with technical independence, scientific rigour and transparency.

In a statement sent to Inforpress, the INE’s board of directors “clearly, firmly and categorically” rejected the allegations of manipulation, falsification or misuse of official statistics, which arose following public statements calling the institution’s credibility into question.

The Institute reiterated that it carries out its duties in accordance with the Constitution, national legislation and the fundamental principles of official statistics, guiding its actions by technical and professional independence, impartiality, objectivity, scientific rigour, transparency and the public interest.

According to the press release, all statistics produced by INE follow methodologies that are harmonised with the standards of the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and other international organisations, ensuring that Cabo Verde’s indicators are comparable with those of other countries.
