Hiring Cuban doctors will become more expensive - Health Minister

Praia, Apr 28 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Health, Jorge Figueiredo, said today that hiring Cuban doctors to fill the deficit in this sector will be more expensive than the previous batch.

The government official, who has just completed a mission to Cuba, revealed to Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV) that salaries are in the process of being adjusted.

“With the hiring of a contingent of a few dozen, we are thinking of between five and six dozen to fill the deficit that we currently experience in Cabo Verde, in the specialist areas in the two central hospitals [Praia and Mindelo] and in the four regional hospitals”, declared Jorge Figueiredo.

He added that, with the recruitment of Cuban doctors, the Government also intends to “reinforce” the area of public health, primary health care, “to significantly improve the health care of the population”.
