São Miguel, 30 June (Inforpress) – The writer and composer Henrique Correia believes that the book *Cifras e Partituras – Cabo Verde Música Crioula*( Cape Verdean Creole Music), which brings together 23 of his own compositions with chord symbols and sheet music, contributes to the preservation and promotion of Cape Verdean music.

The 180-page book brings together songs written in various genres of Creole music, such as morna, coladeira and batuco, whilst also incorporating influences from international styles, including reggae, samba and slow, all performed in the Creole language.

As he explained, the inclusion of the figures and musical scores meets the need to make the compositions available in a universal musical language, enabling them to be performed by musicians both within and outside Cabo Verde.

‘It’s not just a curiosity, it’s a technical matter. Musical notation is an international language. Anyone with a knowledge of music can pick up the score and play the melody,’ he said.
