Praia, 26 June (Inforpress) – Today, the  lawyer Hélio Sanches expressed his willingness to stand as a candidate in the November presidential elections, stating that he intends to be the candidate supported by the Movement for Democracy (MpD) and that he will only proceed with the support of this party.

“I have expressed my willingness to stand as a candidate in the forthcoming presidential elections, and I believe these elections are very important for the MpD and for Cabo Verde,” he said in comments to Inforpress, emphasising that he intends to stand with the support of his party.

Hélio Sanches said that he had already informed the MpD leadership of his intention and was awaiting a decision; he has also been in contact with party leaders and potential candidates for the party leadership, namely Herménio Fernandes, Orlando Dias, Paulo Veiga and Luís Filipe Tavares.

According to the candidate, there was a willingness to discuss the strategy for his potential candidacy, and he pointed out that his intention is to contribute to the internal unity of the MpD, which, in his view, needs to regain its internal cohesion following the most recent election results.
