Government suspends exceptional fuel arrangements, but continues to support the electricity sector in July

Praia, 2 July (Inforpress) – The Government announced on Wednesday the suspension of the exceptional fuel scheme for general consumption, but decided to maintain state support for the electricity sector throughout July to prevent the costs from being passed on to consumers.

The information was revealed by the Minister for the Environment, Climate Action and Energy, Carlos Varela, at a press conference to announce the measures adopted by the Government under Resolution No. 95/2026 of 30 June, which was approved this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers.

According to the resolution, the legislation sets out the mechanism for offsetting deficits arising from the setting of maximum retail prices for regulated petroleum products for the month of June 2026, and introduces measures designed to ensure a gradual transition in electricity tariffs.

The measure aims to protect the budgets of households and businesses by ensuring that the end of the fuel price relief scheme is not accompanied by a rise in electricity prices, thereby preventing costs from being passed on directly to end consumers.
