Government reaffirms commitment to promoting a ‘fair and competitive’ market - Secretary of State

Praia, Mar 26 (Inforpress) - The Secretary of State for Finance reaffirmed today, at the opening of the 10th Statutory Meeting of the ECOWAS Competition Consultative Committee, Cabo Verde's commitment to promoting a ‘fair and competitive’ market.

Chairing the meeting, the Secretary of State for Finance, Alcindo Mota, considered that the meeting in the country symbolises the ‘collective commitment’ to strengthen regional cooperation and promote fair and equitable competition practices throughout West Africa.

‘Healthy competition is a fundamental pillar for sustainable economic development (...) it stimulates innovation, improves efficiency and ensures that the benefits of growth are widely distributed to all our fellow citizens,’ he said.

In this context, he emphasised that the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority and its Advisory Committee play a ‘central role’ in promoting this cooperation, strengthening the actions of national authorities and ‘increasing the effectiveness’ of national and regional competition law.
