Government expresses solidarity after the sinking of the ship Nhô Padre Benjamim off the coast of São Nicolau

Praia, Apr 15 (Inforpress) – The Government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Transport and the Ministry of the Sea, today expressed support to the crew and all employees of the Verdelines company and guaranteed reinforcement of maritime security after the shipwreck in Preguiça.

The cargo ship “Nhô Padre Benjamim” sank this Monday, the 14th, off the coast of the fishing area of Preguiça, in São Nicolau.

The Government expressed “relief” at the rescue of the vessel’s 20 occupants and reiterated its commitment to the safety of maritime connections in the archipelago.

The ship, belonging to the company Verdelines, had left the port of Palmeira, on the island of Sal, bound for Tarrafal de São Nicolau, transporting gravel and heavy machinery.
