Government decrees two days of national mourning following the death of the Bishop Emeritus Don Paulino Évora

Praia, Jun 17 (Inforpress) – The Government decreed on Sunday two days of national mourning following the death of the Bishop Emeritus Don Paulino Évora, from Monday 17, said today the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Fernando Elísio Freire.

Speaking to Radio of Cabo Verde, Fernando Elísio Freire lamented the death of Bishop Paulino Évora and expressed his condolences to the Catholic Church and the family in mourning.

“It is a deep sadness, the Government deeply regrets the death of Dom Paulino, the bishop of the Cabo Verdean people, was the first bishop of Cabo Verde, but above all for humanity, dignity of the human person he always defended above all for having put into practice the social doctrine of the church, practicing the common good and always being at the service of the people of his country”, he said.

As Fernando Elísio Freire announced, the Government will decree the two-day national mourning under Cabo Verdean legislation, noting in this regard that Don Paulino “represented the Cabo Verdean man and transmitted values ​​of humanity and of righteousness to all the Cabo Verdeans, regardless of the religion that each one professed”.
