Praia, Jun 14 (Inforpress) – The director general of immigration, Carmen Barros, said on Thursday that for a country that receives, such as Cabo Verde, knowledge of foreign languages is essential, which are also an important element in ensuring employability.
She spokes during a roundtable discussion on “languages and immigration”, promoted by the students of the Public Relations course and executive secretariat of the School of Business and Governance (ENG – Uni-CV), with the goal of exercising the knowledge acquired in French.
“We receive people who have come to stay (immigrants), but we also receive tourists and receive people from different backgrounds, different nationalities and linguistic contributions, there has to be some domain of languages that are not necessarily ours so that we can communicate with whom comes”, she said.
Carmem Barros also points out that when talking about immigration, besides communicating in other languages, there is also a need to make immigrants aware of their rights and duties and to provide information in other languages than the Portuguese language.
