Fogo: Pro-pesca says island fishermen have been marginalized over time in terms of support

São Filipe, Sep 10 (Inforpress) – Fogo island fishermen have been marginalized in terms of support and successive governments have paid little attention to the class, argues António Pires, president of the Fishermen and Fishwoman Association.

This association leader of the fishing sector, based in Ponta Verde, northern area of São Filipe, made these references during the delivery of six 8, 9.5 and 15 horse engines to a group of fishermen in the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros, stressing that small boats is a way the class finds to ensure income to their families.

Pro-Pesca, as António Pires says, is working “hard” to mobilize partnerships and resources for the implementation of other projects that benefit the fishermen in Fogo island.

He announced that it is on the agenda to purchase an ice maker to make available to fishermen, as well as to find a place for fish conservation and processing.
