São Filipe, Aug 27 (Inforpress) – The municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo has made available about 2.000 fruit plants (1.800) to families under the fruit development project funded by the United States Embassy in Cabo Verde.
The amount provided by the Embassy was US $ 7.000, more than 600 thousand Cabo Verdean escudos, to start the project in the fruit sector, and the amount was applied to the production of fruit plants distributed to families for planting, according to the mayor, Alberto Nunes.
The mayor of Santana Catarina told Inforpress that she was initially afraid that people would not get involved, but the number of plants produced has proved to be insufficient and the municipality is mobilizing partners and more funds to produce more fruit plants to distribute to families.
According to the mayor, in addition to fruit trees, the agriculture service, which is now managed by the City Hall, will also produce forest and ornamental plants for the creation of green areas in all locations, indicating that in all accesses to be built will be placed plants, aiming at the beautification and creation of green spaces.
