São Filipe, Dec 5 (Inforpress) – The program for mitigating the effects of the bad agricultural year in the municipality of Mosteiros, submitted to the Government last November, is budgeted at about 33 million escudos and should guarantee around 600 jobs.

The Councilor of the City Hall of Mosteiros, Jaime Monteiro Júnior, explained to Inforpress that the program is structured in four measures, namely the management of water scarcity, livestock rescue, income generating activities and the promotion of local jobs for families most affected.

In the water scarcity area, he said, the plan foresees actions ranging from strengthening the adoption and distribution of water from boreholes to increase the availability of water for irrigated agriculture, as well as home connections to needy families.

According to the mayor, the plan also foresees the acquisition of drip irrigation kits (25) to increase irrigated areas, launch of water extension network in Queimada Guincho and Queimada Trás, rehabilitation of highland suckers and construction of cisterns in the field to support farmers and livestock farmers.
