Praia, June 26 (Inforpress) - The Cape Verdean national football team plays today for its continued participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Saudi Arabia, in a match of the third round of Group H, to be played in Houston, USA.
In a group in which all four teams – Spain, Uruguay, Cabo Verde and Saudi Arabia – still have a chance of reaching the round of 16, the squad led by manager Pedro Brito, better known as Bubista, are determined to continue surprising the world with their first victory.
After two draws against the World Champions Spain and Uruguay in their opening matches, the Creole side are hoping to secure their first victory in this, their maiden World Cup appearance, in tonight’s match against the Asian team.
In case of victory, Cape Verde will automatically qualify for the second round, further cementing its place in the history of the world’s biggest football tournament; however, a draw could still see the “Tubarões Azuis” – as the Cape Verdean national team is known – qualify, provided that Spain, regarded as one of the strongest contenders for the title, beats Uruguay.
