São Filipe, Nov 4 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verdean writer Germano Almeida defended the need for everyone to read the book Chiquinho every five years, “not to forget”, and the rulers to present evidence of reading before taking office.
The 2018 Camões Prize, who participated in the third edition of Morabeza – Literary Festival, stated during the Life Interview, in the context of the event’s program, that the book Chiquinho by Baltazar Lopes da Silva is the one that “best translates history of Cabo Verde”, underlining that it is a story that remains “timeless”.
“It cannot be said that ‘Chiquinho’ is an old book, it is still present and, above all, it is important to read the work so that people stop repeating the things it denounces,” said the writer, for whom this work is read “out of time” and “in bad time”.
According to Germano Almeida, ‘Chiquinho’ is a book that is in schools, but it is given ‘too early’ for children to learn on the wealth it represents, although, he stressed, it is ‘a negative wealth’ because “unfortunately it translates Cabo Verdean as a people”. Regarding the third edition of Morabeza-Literary Festival, which this year had as main stage the island of Fogo and extended to Praia, Germano Almeida was pleased with its accomplishment and the way it was organized.
