Praia, Jun 14 (Inforpress) – The director of the Blood Bank at Agostinho Neto Hospital, Carlos Neves, (HAN) today assured to Inforpress that the blood transfusions made at this facility are safe for the donor and the patient.
In an interview about the celebrations of June 14, World Blood Donor Day, which this year is celebrated under the theme “Safe Blood for All”, Carlos Neves said that before donating a blood, the donor undergoes a clinical screening, in which it fills questions about ancestors’ illnesses and personal situations they have passed through.
In addition, the donor undergoes examinations of heart, lung, hemoglobin, blood pressure and other tests as necessary, such as HIV-AIDS (HIV1 and HIV2) to Syphilis, to Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
“This inquiry is part of patient safety, which receives the blood, because it has personal questions that we ask to eliminate the risk factors associated with transfusion. It should be known if the donor is conditioned by drugs, alcoholism, the use of any medication and other problems that may exist and have repercussion in the patient and affect the donation”, said the doctor.
