Creoleness: São Tomé and Príncipe and Guadeloupe highlight the challenges facing Creole languages and call for cultural support

Praia, 29 May (Inforpress) — São Tomé and Príncipe and the Guadeloupe Region today highlighted the importance of Creole identity and drew attention to the challenges involved in preserving Creole languages and cultural heritage, calling for policies to promote and pass on this heritage across generations to be strengthened.

The position was expressed by the Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Higher Education of São Tomé and Príncipe, Isabel Viegas de Abreu, and by the Vice-President of the Guadeloupe Region and President of the Culture Commission, Jean-Claude Nelson.

Both participated in the panel “Creoleness and its specificities: ‘Kriolidadi pa mi’”.

Integrated into the second day of the International Meeting of Atlantic Creole Culture, the event takes place at the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV), in Praia City, until Saturday, the 30th.
