Mindelo, Mar 21 (Inforpress) – The councilwoman for the Environment of the City Hall of São Vicente, Carla Monteiro, today called on the International Day of Forests to “environmental awareness” of the São Vicente’s population in the protection of green spaces.
According to the same source, of the approximately five thousand species of plants planted by the local authority in several zones of the island only 60% was successful and the rest stolen or vandalized in recent times.
“We appeal to people not to steal the plants from the flower beds, because the tree is very important, it goes far beyond the aesthetic value and beautification of the city due to its multiple benefits to the ecosystem”, said Carla Monteiro.
And it was with the intention of awakening the ecological conscience in the students, “to call attention to the trees and the forests”, mainly in the urban spaces, that the City Hall chose the Semião Lopes School, in Bela Vista, for an action of planting trees and shrubs, as part of the International Day of Forests, which is celebrated today.
