City Hall of Praia: Civil Protection Officer says service is “minimally prepared” for rain

Praia, Aug 5 (Inforpress) – Celestino Afonso, director of the Civil Protection Service of City Hall of Praia, said the institution was “minimally prepared” to cope with any floods in the city of the capital.

According to him, for “punctual interventions” in the preparation and restoration of normality during the rainy season, a budget of over 25 million escudos was made.

Celestino Afonso made these statements in remarks after the presentation of the Rain City Emergency Operational Plan for Praia, adding that alongside this amount there are other investments that allow the capital to be “better prepared” to receive the rains.

“We are minimally prepared to provide emergency responses in normal flood or precipitation situations,” he said, adding that if there is “something bigger” they will turn to the National Civil Protection Service and international aid for “extreme situations.”
