Praia, Aug 8 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Health revealed that the the country has already spent 122.4 million escudos is health care due cigarette smoke, and in 2017 the Government disbursed 86.7 million in diseases related to tobacco.
Arlindo do Rosário released this data at the launch of the Tobacco Control Investment Case Study in Cabo Verde, this Wednesday, promoted in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to the holder of the Health and Social Security portfolio, the problem of smoking cost 31.7 million escudos to the pockets of Cabo Verdean citizens.
“Although the costs of premature mortality are high, the consequences of tobacco use begin long before death. As individuals begin to suffer from illnesses attributable to smoking, expensive medical care is needed to treat them,” said the official.
