CAN2026/Women's Football: Eleia Vieira named man of the match in Cape Verde's draw against Cameroon.

Praia, August 7 (Inforpress) - Cape Verdean international Eleia Vieira was named man of the match in the 1-1 draw between Cabo Verde and Cameroon on Thursday, August 6, a result that secured the women's national team their first point in CAN2026.

In the 50th minute, midfielder Vá Moreira levelled the score (1–1), firing in a shot across goal that gave the Cameroon goalkeeper no chance of saving it.

The goal secured Cabo Verde's first point in its history in a final stage of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2026).

In statements after the game, reproduced by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF) channels, the athlete expressed her satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing that the individual distinction is the result of collective effort.

"I am very happy with this game. Even with just one point, we leave proud, with our heads held high and certain that we did a great job as a team. This achievement belongs to my teammates, the entire technical team, the management, the staff, and the Cape Verdean people who have always been with us," she stated.
