Praia, May 10 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs assured Thursday that there is no cause for concern about the construction of the US Embassy, emphasizing that this decision stems from the “trust” and “excellence” of historical relations cooperation between the two countries.
Luís Filipe Tavares made the remarks at a press conference about the displacement of the Varzea high school to the Taiti zone and the construction of the Embassy of the United States of America in the space where the said high school is built.
The US decision to build an embassy in the archipelago as it recalled happens for the first time, 200 years after the establishment of relations between the United States and Cabo Verde and 44 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations.
According to the official, this means a “proof of unequivocal trust” of the United States, which currently houses more than 500.000 Cabo Verdeans, adding that this project, which is budgeted at more than 200 million dollars, will have a “very important impact in the Cabo Verdean economy and will create and generate a reference zone in the city of Praia”.
