Cabo Verde wants to take cooperation with Portugal to a new strategic level – President

Praia, 22 July (Inforpress) – This Tuesday, the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, stated

that Cabo Verde intends to take its cooperation with Portugal to a new strategic level, strengthening the partnership in new areas of mutual interest.

José Maria Neves was speaking at a joint press conference with the President of the Portuguese Republic, António José Seguro, as part of the state visit that the Portuguese head of state began today in Cabo Verde.

The Cape Verdean President stated that, since independence, Portugal has been “an essential pillar” in the development of Cabo Verde, highlighting its contribution to the consolidation of the democratic rule of law, freedom of the press, local government, institutions and the country’s development.

He also emphasised that Portuguese cooperation had enabled the training of thousands of Cape Verdean professionals, the treatment of thousands of patients over the last 50 years, the modernisation of infrastructure, and support in the areas of climate change, maritime safety and the special partnership between Cabo Verde and the European Union.

José Maria Neves also highlighted the role of the Cape Verdean communities in Portugal.
