Cabo Verde’s 2,000-escudo bill is among the 16 finalists in the “Best African Circulating Banknote 2026” contest

Praia, Aug. 10 (Inforpress) – The 2,000-escudo banknote issued in 2024 by the Bank of Cabo Verde in tribute to Cesária Évora is among the 16 finalists in the “Best African Circulating Banknote 2026” competition, having received 87% of the votes.

According to information from the Bank of Cabo Verde (BCV), the competition is organized by IBNS Mosaic and aims to annually recognize the best banknotes in circulation across the African continent.

With this result, he emphasized that the Cape Verdean entry automatically secured a spot in the second round of the competition, joining the group of 16 finalists and standing out as the most-voted-for entry among all the African entries in the contest.

For the BCV, this performance reflects not only the technical excellence of the banknote and its innovative security features, but also “the strong cultural and emotional appeal” that Cesária Évora’s image and legacy hold for international audiences.
