Praia, Jul 11 (Inforpress) – With a resident population of around 531.000, Cabo Verde joins the world to celebrate World Population Day, July 11, under the theme ” UNFPA’s 50th Anniversary and ICPD25: Accelerating the promise”.
According to data released by the National Statistical Institute (INE), Cabo Verde appears to be a country with a strong predominance of the urban, since of the 531.239 inhabitants, 67.9 percent (%) of the households and 64.3 % of the population live in urban areas.
In the period taken by reference to INE, in 2016, the majority of the population lives in the urban area, with the Santiago Island, the largest in the country, still housing more than half the population (56.7%).
Praia, with 27.5%, followed by São Vicente with 14.7% of the population.
The municipality of Praia, which is home to the capital, is considered 100% urban, contrasting with the islands of Maio, São Nicolau, Fogo and Brava, where more than half of the population live in rural areas.
