Cabo Verde hosts African Healthcare Summit to reinforce “One Health” approach

Praia, Apr 23 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde will host the African Healthcare Summit starting Thursday, the 24th, an event that the country's authorities consider “important” for reinforcing the “One Health” approach on the African continent. 

“Cabo Verde and the Ministry of Health are delighted with this event as it is the first to be held in a Portuguese-speaking country by Zenit Global Health and for reinforcing the One Health approach, always thinking about human, animal and environmental health in a single context”, said the president of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) during a press conference to talk about the event, which takes place this Thursday, in Praia.

According to Maria da Luz Lima, although more than 60 percent (%) of the diseases that occur in the African region are of zoonotic origin, that is, from animals, there are also others, the consequences of which are due to climate change. 

“In this matter, we need to promote environmental surveillance and a holistic view of health, not only human health, but in all its determinants”, he stated, pointing out the following as determining factors of health: food, education, environment and several others.
