Brazilian expert advocates for open government as an essential tool for strengthening democracy

Praia, 21 May (Inforpress) – Maria Alexandra Cunha, a lecturer at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), argued today in Praia that open government is an essential tool for bringing the state closer to its citizens and promoting participation in public governance.

The expert was speaking to the press on the sidelines of Open Government Week, where she gave a talk entitled “Beyond transparency, participation and collaboration? A reflection on the dimensions of open government” and led a course on data and transparency, an initiative organised by the Ministry of State Modernisation and Public Administration.

According to Maria Alexandra Cunha, the main aim of this model is to foster a close relationship that enables the public to participate in shaping and monitoring public policy.

“It is very important to have open government, because it brings the state closer to its citizens and addresses the issues that matter most to them,” she said.
