Sal Rei, July 23 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, speaking this Thursday at the 5th Ocean Decade Conference in Boa Vista, called for firmer global action in marine protection, reaffirming the country's commitment to sustainability.

The Cape Verdean Head of State, speaking to heads of state, government leaders and international partners, emphasised the importance of aligning national economic growth with rigorous environmental protection, transforming the challenges faced by a Small Island Developing State into concrete opportunities for innovation and development.

During the conference, whose topic is ‘Blue Economy: Sustainable Pathways’, José Maria Neves highlighted Leadership and Joint Patronage as priority areas, formally sharing the role of Patron of the Alliance for the Decade of the Ocean with the President of Portugal, António José Seguro, thereby consolidating a shared vision and strong bilateral cooperation in the Atlantic.

Governance and partnerships, with an urgent need to strengthen international cooperation, mobilise innovative funding and ensure that island states have the technical and scientific resources necessary to manage their vast maritime areas.
