Basketball: Joel Tavares elected MVP of the Senior Men's National Championship

Praia, August 24 (Inforpress) – ABC Sports Club point guard Joel Tavares was elected Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025/2026 Senior Men's National Basketball Championship on Sunday, after helping the Santiago Sul team win the national title.

According to the Cape Verdean Basketball Federation, Joel Tavares finished the season in style, being chosen as the most valuable player of the Senior Men's National Basketball Championship, which ended on Sunday with ABC being crowned national champions.

The ABC centre-back, wearing the number 8 shirt, has also been named in the competition’s Team of the Tournament, alongside Fredson Fonseca of Real Sociedade in goal; Walter Lopes of ABC, also in goal; Giovani Delgado of Pantera Negra on the wing; and Leandro Monteiro of ABC on the opposite wing.

As well as Joel Tavares, who was named MVP, ABC also saw Walter Lopes named the competition’s top scorer.
