Praia, May 20 (Inforpress) – The president of the Cabo Verde Athletics Federation, Tatiana Cabral, today described as historic the silver medal won by Arianne Morais at the African Athletics Championships, a result that placed Cabo Verde on the continental podium of the sport.
The athlete became African vice-champion in the javelin throw event after achieving a mark of 56.49 metres, surpassed only by an Egyptian representative, while third place went to an athlete from South Africa.
Speaking to Inforpress, Tatiana Cabral considered that the achievement by the Cabo Verdean athlete represents a new dimension for national athletics, especially as it is the first medal ever won by Cabo Verde at an African Athletics Championship.
“This medal is a historic milestone. It is the first time Cabo Verde has reached the podium at an African Athletics Championship,” said the federation official.
