Association of Municipalities proposes a summit with the Government in order to strengthen autonomy and decentralisation

São Filipe, 24 August (Inforpress) – Fábio Vieira, the president of the National Association of Municipalities of Cabo Verde (ANMCV), today proposed holding a summit among the Government and local authorities to set out a new governance agenda.

The summit, which is expected to take place between October and November, aims, in addition to defining the new governance agenda, to strengthen the financial autonomy of municipalities and deepen the decentralization process in the country.

In an interview with Radio Cabo Verde, Fábio Vieira said that Cabo Verde is experiencing a "turning point" after 35 years of municipalism, considering it the moment to take stock of the journey, identify weaknesses and gains, and above all, open new horizons for strengthening local power.

The summit aims to provide a forum for dialogue, cooperation and coordination among the central government, local authorities and other development partners, with a view to establishing a comprehensive agenda for the sustainable development of local areas.
