The President of the Republic says that the acting government is not a caretaker government, but should confine itself to day-to-day business

Praia, 26 May (Inforpress) –Today, the President of the Republic clarified today that the current government is not in a caretaker capacity, retaining “the full extent of its constitutional powers”, arguing that, “for ethical reasons”, it should confine itself to “routine matters and matters of institutional responsibility”.

According to José Maria Neves, the voters’ choice to bring about a change of government requires the outgoing administration to exercise “restraint and prudence” in order to avoid “creating difficulties for the new government formed following the [17 May] elections”

In his view, the acting government is not a caretaker government and retains the full extent of its constitutional powers.
