São Vicente: Woman arrested at Cesária Évora Airport with over 13 kilograms of cocaine remanded in custody

Mindelo, 26 May (Inforpress) – The Court of São Vicente has ordered the remand in custody of a 32-year-old Cape Verdean woman who was arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) at Cesária Évora International Airport in possession of 13.608 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside a suitcase.

According to information provided by the PJ, the arrest took place in the early afternoon of Sunday 24th as part of an operation to combat drug trafficking on the island of São Vicente and to screen passengers on international flights at that airport.

The operation culminated in the suspect’s arrest as she disembarked from a flight from Lisbon, Portugal, which had made stopovers at other destinations, including Brazil.

According to the PJ, during the security check carried out on the passengers of that flight, 130 packets of powdered cocaine were found hidden in pieces of bedspread inside a suitcase carried by the woman.
