Praia, 26 May (Inforpress) – The founder of the “Zé Luís Solidário” project revealed today that he had received threats during the process of transferring the teenager Dário Silva to Senegal for medical treatment, adding that he is awaiting the findings of the Ministry of Health’s investigation.

Zé Luís Martins made these remarks to the press following a meeting with the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, to mark the project’s sixth anniversary.

The activist explained that the ‘Dário case’ – in which a 13-year-old boy diagnosed with a bone tumour was referred for palliative care in Cabo Verde – had caused tension between the project and certain public institutions, due to the controversy surrounding the boy’s transfer for treatment abroad.

“We never received any cooperation. We faced threats against the project and threats against me personally,” the official reported, without, however, revealing the identity or origin of those responsible for the intimidation.

Zé Luís Martins criticised the stance taken by the Cape Verdean authorities and stated that the Ministry of Health is unaware of the teenager’s whereabouts and current condition in Dakar, and has no contact with the Senegalese medical team.
