Ribeira Grande, May 25 (Inforpress) – The programme manager of the European Union Delegation in Cabo Verde, Sofia Maia, stated today in Santo Antão that the institution continues to support environmental preservation, tourism and income-generation projects for communities.
Speaking to the press during a monitoring visit to several projects financed by the European Union on the island, Sofia Maia explained that the mission began with the Eco Raiz project, an initiative aimed at supporting the transformation of part of the Centrum Sete Sóis Sete Luas into an interpretative centre dedicated to nature tourism.
“This is one of the interpretative centres we have been financing here on the island of Santo Antão, but it is part of a broader set of initiatives currently underway,” she stressed.
The same source added that the European Union has been supporting civil society organisations, in partnership with local communities and municipal authorities, in projects related to environmental rehabilitation and sustainable tourism.
