São Vicente: Região Tour Organises São João Festival at Quintal das Artes

Mindelo, May 22 (Inforpress) – The Região Tour association will organise a São João festival on Saturday, the 23rd, at Quintal das Artes, featuring groups from São Vicente and Santo Antão, with the aim of promoting the historical, cultural, educational and recreational value of the June festivities.

Speaking to Inforpress, Região Tour representative Carlos Ribeiro explained that the idea is to preserve relationships and social interaction within the framework of safeguarding collective identity and to place this activity on the national calendar of cultural events on the island of São Vicente.

According to the same source, activities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the reception of coladeira drummers from Porto Novo at Porto Grande harbour, followed by a parade through the streets of Mindelo alongside the associations Terra Tambor and “Sanjon Revultiód”, students from the Artistic Education course at the University of Cabo Verde, dance groups, among others.

The procession, he explained, will pass through Marginal and 05 de Julho avenues, Rua de Praia, Rua da Praça Estrela and Avenida 12 de Setembro, culminating at the Ribeira Bote club, where a cultural exchange and the presentation of a master’s dissertation on the June festivities, authored by drummer and drum maker João Moraes, will take place.
