Praia, May 21 (Inforpress) - The president of the High Authority for Immigration today defended the pursuit of consistency in welcoming immigrants, stressing that Cabo Verde should welcome foreign communities in the same way it expects Cape Verdeans to be treated in the diaspora.

This statement was made to Inforpress, in the context of the International Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, which is being celebrated today.

As Carmem Barros pointed out, cultural diversity results from the coexistence of plurality, of difference, namely of cultures, nationalities, languages, religions, among others.

Cape Verde, he said, is a country deeply shaped by emigration, with Cape Verdean communities spread across every continent; the country should welcome them in the same way it would like Cape Verdeans to be treated, recognising that cultural diversity enriches other countries.
