Praia, May 14 (Inforpress) –Today, the CNE signed protocols with civil society associations to strengthen the “Accessible Voting” programme, aimed at ensuring that people with disabilities and reduced mobility can exercise their right to vote with equality and dignity.
Through these protocols, signed with the Association of Families and Friends of Children with Cerebral Palsy (Acarinhar) and the Association of the Visually Impaired of Cabo Verde (Adevic), the National Electoral Commission (CNE) intends to guarantee the exercise of the right to vote “with dignity, equality and accessibility” for people with disabilities, reduced mobility and specific needs.
CNE president Maria do Rosário stated that Cabo Verde is taking “another step” towards a more inclusive electoral process through the signing of cooperation agreements with representative associations of people with disabilities and reduced mobility, within the framework of the “Accessible Voting” programme.
According to the official, the initiative, launched in 2019 and approved in 2020, includes a set of measures aimed at removing barriers that hinder access to voting for citizens with specific needs.
