President Calls for Democratization of Scientific Data and Active National Role in Ocean Climate Action

Praia, May 07 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic today called for the democratization of access to scientific data and stronger cooperation among universities, research centres and companies to foster innovation and strengthen global ocean climate action.

José Maria Neves was speaking to the press and at the opening session of the 22nd edition of the BIN@ Cabo Verde conference, taking place today and Friday, May 08, at the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV), where he delivered a lecture under the theme “The Role of Cabo Verde in Global Ocean Climate Action”.

The Head of State highlighted the sea as “the archipelago’s main strategic resource” and a “central element” for the country’s sustainable development.

According to the President, the blue economy represents “a strategic opportunity” for Cabo Verde, particularly in the areas of fisheries, tourism, renewable energy, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and food industries, nautical and water sports.
