Praia, 28 April (Inforpress) – The government’s recent social media post regarding the handover of 100 new fishing engines, followed by the phrase “Work you can see, results you can feel”, violates the principle of neutrality and impartiality.

The conclusion is set out in a decision by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) published on Monday 27th, in response to a complaint lodged by the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) on 1 April.

The CNE’s decision is intended to warn the Government to refrain from engaging in similar acts, “on pain of incurring legal liability, specifically for the offence of disobedience”.

The CNE has decided to refer the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of whether the conditions for the offence set out in Article 290 of the Electoral Code – which concerns breaches of the duties of neutrality and impartiality – have been met.
