São Vicente hosts training and awareness activities on female genital mutilation and GBV

Mindelo, Apr 15 (Inforpress) – The University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) will hold on Friday the 17th, in Mindelo, a set of academic and scientific activities dedicated to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

According to a statement from the university, the initiatives are part of the mission of the Centre for Research on Gender and Family (CIGEF) to promote human rights, gender equality and the prevention of violence in its various forms.

As part of the programme, a short course on FGM is scheduled, aimed at Nursing students, from 08:30 to 11:20, at the auditorium of the Faculty of Education and Sport (FaED) of Uni-CV.

The training, according to the same source, addresses fundamental concepts, types and consequences of FGM on the health of women and girls, as well as the importance of discussing this practice in the Cape Verdean context, encouraging critical reflection and social awareness.
